Just found out that the band jacket he is wearing he got from a thrift store and it's from. My high school.

The intro alone. Mesmerizing. Especially in 1988, this was like seeing something so unique and special you looked dazed and confused at your tv. Also. As hundreds here have already pointed out, his tone. It’s like a creamy, sonic flow of water.

ALL due respect to Terry Kath, which was a great guitarist, Eric Johnson was better.

I saw this Austin City Limits show live, and, as a guitarist, my mouth fell open the entire show,I'm so glad I happened on it that Saturday, been a fan ever since, a student, saw you live a couple times here in Florida, so I can say 'I saw Eric Johnson' to everyone I've introduced your music to since that night.

Does he use a classic fuzz face?

Even after watching this several dozen times, as someone whos played guitar for 20 years, I still can't get over how clean this performance was. Its incredible to write, its incredible to perform, but its almost alien to play like Eric Johnson did here. Yes, most of the song is the rudiments of scales and arpeggiation, but I challenge the average person to perform like this on the spot in front of a crowd of people any larger than the amount of your closest family and friends with the perfection he demonstrates here. Maybe once in a million tries. This performance is truly one of a kind and beyond a doubt, absolutely awe-inspiring.
